The presence of former Adilabad MP A. Indrakaran Reddy and former Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa at a press conference addressed by Peddapally MP G. Vivekanand at New Delhi is being considered as a strong indication of the two leaders rejoining the Congress soon. The two had quit the Congress in 2012 following the delay in conceding the demand for separate Telangana.
According to sources, Mr. Indrakaran Reddy is keen on fighting the election to Nirmal Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket. He is nevertheless constrained by the fact that the party could nominate sitting MLA A. Maheshwar Reddy from the constituency.
“A formula is being worked out with party in-charge and senior leader Digvijay Singh which envisages Maheshwar Reddy being given a ticket from Adilabad Assembly constituency where he will be supported by his mentor and DCC chief C. Ramchander Reddy," the source said. "The latter is prepared to forego his claim to the Adilabad ticket to cut the chances of a Youth Congress leader who is strongly tipped for nomination for which AICC vice president Rahul Gandi is said to be rooting.
Mr. Konappa, who lost the 2009 election to the TRS candidate, is also likely to be fielded from Sirpur Assembly constituency.
There is also a rumour that former MLA Palvai Rajyalaxmi, who is now with the TRS, is also trying to gain entry into the Congress.
