Stellar role played by national, State agencies comes in for praise

: India has the largest force to deal with disaster management and the services of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 10{+t}{+h}Battalion, will be utilised for the Krishna Pushkarams – 2016, said City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang.

Speaking after watching the demo presented by NDRF and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on the Krishna River here on Friday, he praised the skills of the State and the national forces in rescuing victims in manmade and natural disasters.

NDRF battalion commandant Prashant Dar explained that the force attended several operations, including the recent Hudhud Cyclone and other disasters. The force is organising awareness and training programmes for students and youth on various rescue operations.

“With the impressive show, NDRF has proved that they have full capacity in tackling rescue operations in fire, drowning, building collapse, accidents and other tragedies,” said Mr. Sawang and praised the SDRF for their skills on water rescue techniques.

Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) Vice-Chancellor A. Rajendra Prasad said many manmade disasters are causing concern causing human and property loss, and appealed to the public to take steps to prevent tragedies that can be avoided. He complimented the NDRF and SDRF who rescued several people and animals during Hudhud Cyclone in Visakhapatnam.

The NDRF personnel organised cultural programmes depicting patriotism and national integrity on and off the shore of the River, which impressed the audience.

Competitions

They displayed demo on how the NDRF personnel saved the devotees when the boat hit another boat in the river. Swimming and reverse swimming competitions were conducted for NDRF and APSP personnel on the occasion. NDRF personnel arranged an exhibition of the life-saving kits, boats, deep diver kits, medical equipment and other gadgets on the river bank which attracted the visitors. Krishna district Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu, Sub-Collector G. Srujana, APSP 6{+t}{+h}Battalion Commandant Raja Kumari, APSP DIG Ch. Yesuratnam, zonal officer K. Narasimha Rao, NDRF Deputy Commandant Sohan Singh and officers of different cadres of the force and police officials participated.
