Over 30,000 students gave a shot at the joint entrance examinations held in 43 centres across the district on Saturday for admission into India’s Institutes of Technologies (IIT) - the premier institutes of engineering and technology.
As the students along with their parents started arriving on Friday itself, it was a virtual chock-a-block on the narrow roads in the town and in the neighbouring villages. Hotels, lodges and even guest houses were teeming with students and their parents. A coordinated approach among the police, transport department and the NGOs saw the day pass off without major hiccups. Police set up help desks at the main traffic junctions to guide the students on their way to respective examination centres.
Many NGOs gave away their meeting halls, guest houses to accommodate the students.
NGOs such as Rotary Club of Guntur put up help desks at Hindu College centre.
