A student from Nalgonda district, pursuing his M. Tech course from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur, committed suicide.

Boga Shravan Kumar (25), a final year student, was found hanging from the ceiling in his hostel room by his classmates, police said on Monday. Shravan, born in a poor weavers’ family, belonged to Raghunathapuram village in Rajupet mandal.

PTI adds: Additional Superintendent of Police of Kharagpur B. Chandrasekhar said as per the preliminary investigation it was found that the campus placements of final year students of M. Tech was held recently and Shravan got a job but it was not up to his expectation and that he was disheartened over this.

Yadagiri, father of Shravan, said they were informed that his son was disappointed with the placement. The family received a call from IIT-Kharagpur in the afternoon. “Initially, they told us that Shravan was seriously sick. Half-an-hour later, they said our son had committed suicide,” Yadagiri said, fighting hard to control his tears.
