Former Minister Sake Sailajanath on Tuesday stressed that he had never intended to change loyalties to the TDP.
Sailajanath had, after allegedly trying to enter the TDP, come back to the Congress as the TDP cadre severely opposed his entry.
By then, he had formally announced his exit from the Jai Samaikyandhra Party as well, saying that he was never a member of JSP in the first place.
Later, Mr. Sailajanath filed his nomination as a Congress candidate after the TDP announced its candidate for the Singanamala Assembly constituency.
But when the TDP began to re-consider its candidate, Sailajanath came back into reckoning and allegedly filed a nomination with a TDP ‘B’ form but eventually stuck to the Congress after the TDP announced Yaamini Bala as its candidate.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Sailajanath said that the origin of the rumours was his silence when the TDP leaders offered him the ‘B’ form for the Singanamala seat.
“I had to keep silent to prevent any rupture between myself and them. And as my conscience dictated, I remain and shall remain a loyal Congress worker,” said Mr. Sailajanath even as he implied that he was unduly pressurised by TDP leaders, who were asking him to contest on a TDP ticket.
He also said that he would work towards winning in the constituency.
