A huge blast took place at Pragati Organics Limited at IDA Bollaram in Jinnaram mandal of Medak district late last night. According to G. Gangadhar Reddy, Deputy Inspector of Factories, the reactor blasted due to improper handling while trying to distillate an intermediate component of a bulk drug, resulting in the accident.
The impact of the blast was so severe that the reactor blasted into pieces and was thrown out of the roof tops. The compound wall was damaged.
The estimated loss was put at Rs. 3 crore.
Mr. Gangadhar Reddy said that the workers were lucky enough to escape from the accident as they got some signals like sounds before the blast.
Two workers were also injured and had to be admitted to a private hospital in Kukatpally.
