Telugu film actor and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan lauded Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for his adept handling of the situation in Visakhapatnam and its neighbouring districts that were devastated by cyclone Hudhud.

Mr. Kalyan said that Mr. Naidu’s experience enabled him to handle the situation skilfully and that he has the ability to face and deftly deal with crisis. Mr. Kalyan was interacting with media persons along with Mr. Naidu at his makeshift camp office in Visakhapatnam. He advised the Opposition parties not to politicise a natural calamity and instead, join hands with the Government in providing succour to the affected families.

He added that even as the cyclone wreaked havoc in the north Andhra region, the Narendra Modi-led central government had come forward to assist the people facing the calamity and that the gesture of announcing Rs. 1,000 crore as immediate relief reflected its commitment to the cause of the affected people.

Mr. Kalyan was upset over the events since the past week claiming that devastation had struck the region at a time when the government had finalised plans for developing Visakhapatnam as a Smart City. He dismissed the claims that investors, particularly those in the IT sector, would desist from coming to Visakhapatnam owing to its vulnerability to natural calamities like cyclones.

The actor later handed over Rs.50 lakh cheque to Mr. Naidu as his contribution to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for taking up relief measures. Mr. Kalyan, who is presently camping in Visakhapatnam and interacting with the affected people, exhorted his supporters to actively participate in the relief measures.

Mr. Naidu too showered praises on the film star for his response to the natural calamity. Whenever people are in distress, Mr. Pawan Kalyan is seen standing by them, the Chief Minister said.
