In a shocking incident, a degree student not only hoodwinked her college authorities by concealing her pregnancy, but also delivered a male child on January 1.

The issue came to light more than a fortnight after the delivery was done at a private hospital, as her parents and the person said to be the child’s father came to the college, reportedly admitted to the principal that they were in the know of things and also assured that they would not make a fuss and bring disrepute to the college in future.

The degree final year student, who hails from Guntur district, got pregnant reportedly by a close relative when she was nearing the end of the second year course. As the symptoms of pregnancy started appearing, she reportedly convinced her friends and hostel mates that it was a result of some thyroid problem.

On January 1, the girl was taken to the TTD’s Central Hospital after she complained of stomach ache. Confirming her pregnancy, the doctors advised her to go to a maternity hospital, following which she got admitted in a private nursing home. When the parents were informed, they made no fuss about the issue, as they were reportedly aware of the development. However, it is not known if the girl was married or not.

Meanwhile, the hostel wardens came under sharp criticism for their prolonged ignorance of the issue.
