A senior government homeopathy Medical Officer recently rushed to Bengaluru for a medical check-up after he developed swine flu symptoms. To his relief, it turned out to be a severe cold. Ironically, he was actively involved in the distribution of homeopathy pills to prevent the spread of swine flu. The officer admitted that though he had been practising for the past two decades, he had never prescribed homeopathy pills for his children. He said most of his colleagues did the same. Another colleague of his said he mostly relied on ‘English’ medicines for minor ailments, but for complicated cases, he preferred to visit hospitals either in Chennai or Vellore. Ask him why, and he says: “Our counterparts in allopathy grab such occasions to heckle us.”
TDP promise
draws flak
The Telugu Desam Party’s promise to transform Anantapur district into another Israel by implementing the best of irrigation techniques is being ridiculed by Left parties in the district. A senior Left party leader said the inference that local people should draw from the TDP statement was that the district would have to continue to depend on its existing resources, while the State would pamper coastal districts by focusing on their water needs. The Left leader’s sarcastic remark evoked laughter, but it also raised a valid point. How can one forget that the district had to depend on transported water last summer owing to depletion of ground water table?
