As the CBI has tightened the noose around her after investigating her role in the assets case against Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy is likely to submit her resignation from the Council of Ministers.
Her options have narrowed down after opposition parties and even some Congress leaders asked for her resignation on moral grounds. Amid speculation that she forward her resignation, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy rushed to her residence in Srinagar Colony, reportedly to persuade her not to quit. A while later, Ms. Sabitha Reddy joined them at the CM’s camp office.
After a brief interaction with the Home Minister, the two senior leaders called on Chief Minister N. Kiran Kuma Reddy at his residence to discuss the political fallout of Ms. Sabitha Reddy being named as the fourth accused in the latest charge-sheet filed by the CBI in the special court on Monday for allegedly doling out favours to Dalmia Cements Company which had invested heavily in Mr. Jagan’s companies.
Reacting to the development, Congress leaders said it was on expected lines. Without willing to be quoted, they said Mr. Kiran Reddy may take recourse to the same procedure he had followed when another Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao resigned in the Vanpic case in August last.
The Chief Minister not only rejected the resignation letter but the Cabinet also stood behind him in opposing permission to the CBI to prosecute him.
