The call for a separate Telugu State for the people of Andhra was made louder and stronger from the Town Hall here, said D. Chakrapani, Director General of AP Human Resources Development Institute.

Speaking at the 111th anniversary of the historical Town Hall, Mr. Chakrapani said that it was inaugurated on July 17, 1905, by the then Guntur district Collector Brodie.

The Town Hall was constructed to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, the King of United Kingdom and Emperor of India. Many national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Babu Rajendra Prasad addressed public meetings from this venue during the freedom movement. The historic First Andhra Conference was also held here in 1913. Since then, it has become the centre for all cultural and social activities in Bapatla.

Mr. Chakrapani garlanded the statue of Telugu Talli and planted saplings on the Town Hall premises. In charge Tahsildar of Bapatla, N.V. Prasad, Forum For Better Bapatla secretary P.C. Sai Babu, Adarsha Society secretary B. Sambaiah and students participated in the event.
