Taking serious exception to the conduct of ‘Suvartha Sabhalu,’ a gospel meeting by Tamil Nadu-based Christian missionaries, coinciding with the upcoming Srivari Brahmotsavams at Tirumala, the Hindu Chaitanya Samithi (HCS) has demanded that the State government halt the proceedings ahead of the annual religious fête.
Interacting with media persons here on Monday, HCS president Tumma Omkar alleged that Christian missionaries had been organising such events ‘deliberately’ to coincide with the mega auspicious occasion.
“This has happened in the previous years too. This year, they have decided to hold the meetings in a four-acre area near Cotton Mill from October 6-9 and arrangements are going on. Our only question is why would they conduct their meetings during the annual Brahmotsavams, year after year?” he sought to know.
‘Take action or face
the consequences’
Mr. Omkar said despite repeated representations, no action had been taken. “Right from demolition of temples near the capital city to the conduct of such events, the government has remained a mute spectator. If not elsewhere, it is necessary to protect the sanctity of Tirupati and Tirumala. There are transit points to Tirumala, which are a few yards away from the programme organised by the missionaries,” he said.
Meanwhile, ‘Jai Bharath Seva Samstha’ appealed for closure of meat and alcohol outlets across the city till the completion of the Srivari Brahmotsavams.
Jai Bharath Seva Samstha founder president Ramanuja Kalyana Chakravarthy urged the TTD officials to keep tabs on some of its employees misusing their position by roaming on the roads in drunken stupor.
