The Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court, comprising Chief Justice Kalyanjyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P.V.Sanjay Kumar, on Monday recorded the submission made by the AP state government that specific guidelines are being framed to deal with the policing of Vijayawada city. The bench closed the writ petition filed challenging the action of the Vijayawada police in insisting for production of identity cards etc., from citizens who are found out side the house after 11PM.

The bench was dealing with a case filed by Chiranjeevi advocate, Vijayawada. He had complained that the police issued a circular restricting the movements of citizens after 11PM. On an earlier occasion the bench was shown the hand bill published by police of Vijayawada. The bench expressed dismay and called for response of the government and had said that except as provided under law such restrictions may not be enforced. On Monday, the case had come up for hearing and the court was told that specific guidelines are being framed. The bench said Vijayawada is not affected by serious crime and terror. It felt free hand to police in the absence of specific rules ought not to be given. It added that till new guidelines are framed the earlier interim orders on the enforcement of announcement of the Commissioner shall be in force.
