Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu participated in a Jaipur foot distribution camp organised by Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) at the Swarna Bharat Trust (SBT) at Atkur here on Friday.

Mr. Naidu said of the 2.8 crore physically challenged in the country, nearly 75 per cent were staying in rural areas, far from proper care and rehabilitation.

Institutions like BMVSS ought to reach out to them to alleviate their living conditions.

'Let them have barrier-free access'

In addition to providing prosthetic limbs, it would be good to impart skills that help them in earning a decent livelihood, he observed, and called for ensuring that the physically challenged got barrier-free access to all buildings for which rules were made by the Central government.
