Several places in the State were pounded by heavy rains for a second time within a week, even as the low- pressure area remained stationary over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal without intensifying. Adilabad recorded 10 cm of rain, resulting in floods in numerous rivulets, tanks and streams. In the same district, Sirpur reported 8 cm, Utnoor 7 cm and Adsifabad 6 cm. Penn Ganga, a tributary of the Pranahita, which joins the Godavari at Kaleswaram in
Karimnagar district, was in high spate following torrential rains in its catchment areas lying in Maharashtra. A huge quantity of two lakh cusecs of floodwater was flowing down the Penn Ganga inundating many areas on its banks in the district. The pilgrim centre of Kaleswaram received a rainfall of 5 cm. In Coastal Andhra, Narapur and Machilipatnam recorded 5 cm each, Gudiwada 4 cm and Tenali 3 cm. There was almost no rain in Rayalaseema.
Heavy to very heavy rains have been forecast for the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam on Wednesday.
