Heavy rains lashed several places in Coastal Andhra region on Thursday as the South-West monsoon which has covered the entire State by now, turned active.

Sompeta and Parvatipuram recorded rainfall of 7 cm each; Mandasa, Veeraghattam, Macherla 6 cm each; and Palakonda, Palasa, Ichapuram and Patapatnam 5 cm each. At least 50 other places in the region received rainfall ranging up to 3 to 4 cm each.

In Rayalaseema region, only Owk received meagre rainfall. In contrast, widespread moderate rains lashed Telangana. Eturu Nagaram, Chennur reported 5 cm each and Venkatapuram received 3 cm of rain.

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued by the India Meteorological Department to the effect that there would be heavy rains on Friday in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Khammam, Warangal, Kaimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts.
