The well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea and equatorial Indian Ocean, with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above the mean sea level, persists.

It is very likely to become a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours and deep depression during the subsequent 48 hours, according to the IMD bulletin issued on Tuesday.

The system is very likely to move towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next three days.

Under its influence, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh on December 8 and 9.

Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and at isolated places in Rayalaseema during the same period. Meanwhile, the district administration is gearing up to meet any emergency in view of the possible cyclone threat.

Collector’s directive

Collector Pravin Kumar directed the mandal-level officers to be on alert and take precautionary measures to minimise the damage in view of the warning issued by the IMD .

The Collector said that paddy harvested, if any, in the rural areas should be covered properly with tarpaulin sheets to prevent it from getting damaged in rainwater. Those who did not harvest the crop so far should allow the crop to remain like that till the cyclone threat was over.

Measures should also be taken to ensure there was no water logging in the fields. Agriculture Officers at the mandal-level should undertake campaigns through beating of drums on precautionary measures.
