District Collector Rahul Bojja has appealed to the people to supplement the efforts of the district administration in preventing the epidemics.
Addressing a press conference in Warangal on Thursday, he said no deaths were reported on account of dengue and there were many misconceptions on the symptoms.
“All fevers are not dengue cases. Bleeding, rashes on the body and other symptoms indicate dengue. People are scared and approaching private hospitals which are exploiting them. People should only approach government doctors or health workers,” he said.
He attributed the spread of panic to the RMP doctors who were considering every viral fever as dengue. The RMP doctors in the district were directed to report every viral fever to the Health Department and not to treat dengue cases if found.
There were 180 susceptible and 58 high risk villages in the agency areas in terms of viral fever spread in the district. Both indoor and outdoor anti-mosquito measures such as spraying of synthetic parathyroid’s and releasing Gambusia fish (consumes mosquito larvae) into water tanks were taken.
A second round of sanitation drive was launched on September 20 across the district. The public both in rural and urban areas should maintain cleanliness in their households to prevent growth of mosquitoes, the Collector said.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr. P Sambasiva Rao informed that about 3 lakh blood samples were collected from across the district in the recent past. Of the samples collected, 135 patients were found to be infected with malarial virus and 53 patients tested dengue positive.
An amount of Rs. 29, 000 was released to each gram panchayat in the district towards chlorination and sanitation works.
Measures like setting up ‘rapid action teams’, and ‘entomological teams’ were taken. So far six lakh patients were given treatment through health camps in rural areas.
Warangal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vivek Yadav said that 53 teams were formed to make door-to-door visit and also conduct health camps.
