With Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu bent on shifting key Heads of Departments and commissionerates to Vijayawada, moves are afoot to complete the process at the earliest.

The issue figured at a meeting convened by the Chief Secretary with the secretaries of various departments on Thursday and the committee entrusted with the task requested the secretaries of departments to start identifying the HoDs, commissionerates that could be shifted at the earliest. They were also asked to submit a plan of action to shift out offices in two weeks. The head offices of Panchayat Raj, Education, Health, Agriculture, Welfare, Public Works connected with public directly could be shifted first, sources said.

Even some police wings like Offices of Director General, Fire Services, Prisons could be immediately shifted from Hyderabad to Vijayawada as their area of operation was not here, the sources added.

‘Locate suitable accommodation’

Head of departments have also been asked to locate suitable accommodation in Vijayawada in Medha Towers built by APIIC and L&T that came up as a SEZ which would be denotifed. But as that would not be adequate, other available government accommodation would also be explored.

One suggestion is the regional offices of departments in own premises could be shifted to private buildings to make way for the HoDs shifting from Hyderabad.
