Students of various organisations such as Telangana Students JAC, ABVP and Left groups took out at a rally on Friday from the New Town Crossroads to Telangana Chowk demanding capital punishment to the three accused in the kidnap and murder of six-year-old Shreeya.

The girl was kidnapped allegedly by Yakub, Md. Nassem and Sayyed Ameer on Wednesday from her house in Teachers Colony in Mahabubnagar town and was smothered to death while she was being abducted in an autorickshaw on the same day. They threw her body in an abounded agricultural well near Pollkamapally village of Addakal mandal. Two of the accused retrieved the gunny bag in which the girl’s dead body was stuffed.

The protesters stopped District Collector M. Girija Shankar’s vehicle as it came out of the Collectorate and demanded stern action against the culprits. The Collector assured them of action against the accused.

Minister for Information and Public Relation D.K. Aruna strongly condemned the brutal killing and asked District Collector M. Girija Shanker and SP D. Nagendar Kumar to take steps to punish the accused.

Local BJP MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, who led a candle-light rally from the Clock Tower, too demanded severe punishment for the miscreants at the earliest so that such incidents never repeat.

Members of Telangana auto union, under the leadership of TRS district co-convener Bekkem Janardhan, took out a candle-light rally from Telangana Chowrasta to Ambedkar Crossroads in the evening demanding for the accused to be hung.

Meanwhile, the girl’s last rites were performed on Friday. BJP MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, District Collector M. Girija Shankar and TRS leader Sayyed Ibrahim called upon Shreeya’s parents.
