With increasing vertical and horizontal urbanisation in and around the towns and cities of the capital region, the Town and Country Planning Department’s revenue has gone up significantly in the past couple of years.
Guntur district, despite having 13 urban local bodies (ULBs), the highest among districts, was behind Krishna district in terms of town planning revenue. While Krishna made ₹50.73 crore, Guntur district made₹ 48.01 crore in 2016, according to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development’s Development Permission Management System.
The town planning revenue is largely generated through building permissions, layout and betterment charges.
Guntur district till date this year has already generated ₹57.79 crore, the highest in the State, while Krishna district settled at ₹53.12 crore.
Guntur has registered a growth of 17 % this year while Krishna has only registered only 4.5 % growth in town planning revenue.
Ironically, the Guntur Municipal Corporation’s town planning revenue registered downward trend but the municipalities of Tadepalli, Tenali and Mangalagiri close to the core capital region registered manifold growth.
Infra projects
“Since the beginning of this fiscal year, infrastructure projects came in large numbers in the municipalities close the Chennai-Kolkata national highway between Tadepalli and Mangalagiri. As a result, the development in Vijayawada and Guntur cities came down comparatively,” said a town planning official in Vijayawada.
Last year, Tadepalli Municipality’s town planning revenue was just ₹15.77 lakh. This year, it is ₹10.76 crore so far. Mangalagiri’s revenue went up from ₹49 lakh in 2016 to ₹3.22 crore this year.
In Krishna district, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation did not register any growth but Vuyyuru, Nandigama, Gudivada, Jaggaiapeta and Nuzvid have earned more than double revenue.
