GUDA Chairman Ganni Krishna on Monday announced that he was ready to resign from his post rather than compromise on public issues. He spoke to mediapersons here on Monday after the foundation stone for the Kambala tank park beautification works worth ₹97 lakh was laid by him.

The programme was boycotted by Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai and some corporators.

Mr. Ganni Krishna said he had appealed to the Mayor, MLAs and the Commissioner about the ruined condition of the tank many a time. Though the corporation had sanctioned ₹1.30 crore for the beautification of the tank during the Godavari Pushkarams, no work had been taken up even after two years.

He said that the date for the commencement of beautification works was not fixed by him as alleged by the Mayor, but by the corporation officials. He was only concerned about completing the beautification works before the next monsoon, he said.

Mayor took exception

Earlier, the Mayor took exception to the proposed inauguration of the Kambala tank park development works on Monday by the AP Urban Greenery and Beautification Corporation (APUGBC) alleging that they had failed to take the Municipal Corporation into confidence and fixed the date without the notice of the Mayor or the Commissioner.

Meanwhile, MLA Akula Satyanarayana laid the foundation stone for the Goutami Regional Library (GRL) which is going to be constructed with a special development fund of ₹2 crore.

He also inaugurated drain works on TTD road taken up with ₹40 lakh 14th Finance Commission funds.

Later, he inaugurated the new Rythu Bazaar near Y-Junction constructed with ₹28 lakh.

Ganni Krishna, Adireddy Apparao, Deputy Mayor Vasireddy Rambabu and local corporators were present.
