The State government will construct multi-storeyed buildings in rural areas to provide housing to eligible beneficiaries, according to I&PR and Housing Minister Kaluva Srinivasulu.
At a press conference at the Secretariat near here on Tuesday, he said a pilot project would be taken up in Palarlapalle in the Kuppam constituency at a cost of ₹100 crore for about 2,000 beneficiaries. The government, which was planning G plus 3 buildings, would spend ₹90 crore on the construction and ₹10 crore for creation of infrastructural facilities, he said.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu approved a proposal to increase the maximum plinth area for the NTR Rural Housing (Gramin) and the Pre-NTR housing schemes. The area was previously 500 sq ft, and now it would be 750 sq ft. There were 20.99 lakh eligible people for housing whose details were entered into Awas soft. The Centre would be urged to provide housing to all the eligible people, he said.
Saying the laid down rules were a hindrance in the construction of houses for the poor in urban areas, Mr. Srinivasulu said the government was contemplating doing away with the statutory requirement of obtaining building plans for constructions under the housing schemes. A GO would be issued soon, he said, adding, as per the Central government guidelines it was not mandatory to obtain the building plans under the housing schemes.
State Housing Corporation Chairman Varla Ramaiah and Managing Director Kantilal Dande were present.

The officials informed him that 1,45,540 houses taken up under the NTR Housing (rural, special, urban and relief from Hudhud), the PMAY etc., had been completed so far.
