Govt. sets up land acquisition authority

To be a headed by a special officer, its mandate is speedy disposal of disputes

The Andhra Pradesh government has notified the establishment of Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority in line with the provisions under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (Act 30 of 2013).

Constitution of the authority has been mandated under the 2013 Act for facilitating speedy disposal of disputes relating to land acquisition, compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement. The authority is expected to exercise jurisdiction, powers and authority conferred on it in the issues relating to land acquisition.

The authority shall consist of one person as the presiding officer and the presiding officer should be of the rank of district judge or a person qualified as legal practitioner for not less than seven years. The government said, in the recent extraordinary gazette notification, that three such offices would be established in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati to cover the 13 districts of the State.
