Govt inks MoC with 23 food processing firms

Officials hope over 9,000 jobs will be created

The State government inked a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with 23 firms that are into food processing business on Monday.

The MoCs worth of ₹855 crore were signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat near here. The AP Food Processing Society conducted the Food Processing Summit coinciding with the World Food Day. The MoCs would provide employment to 9,477 people. These firms had expertise in food processing, development of new foods etc, officials said.

The government entered into MoCs with 245 firms in the Partnership Summit conducted in Visakhapatnam. Of this, 140 had already become operational. As much as ₹1600 crore was invested and employment was generated for 25,000 people. With the new MoCs, the food processing industry would reach new heights, said officials.

Mr. Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh was a role model in the food processing sector and the latest MoCs would be a new chapter in the sector. Though the previous governments neglected the agriculture sector completely, the government could revive it with best policies, he said.
