Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on Friday said that all government hospitals would be equipped with facilities to conduct heart transplantation surgeries.

The Minister was speaking to media persons after visiting Yedukondalu, who had undergone the first-of-its kind heart transplant surgery at the Government General Hospital by a team led by cardio thoracic surgeon Gopalakrishna Gokhale under the aegis of the Sahrudaya trust.

Mr. Yedukondalu, who was a taxi driver, had been suffering from a rare heart ailment, was given a new lease of life after doctors successfully harvested the heart of one Yedukondalu, from Vijayawada on May 20.

The Minister further said that 212 health centres and 35 cancer centres would be established in the State.
