Govt. ad: Kerala to move SC

May 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala government would appeal against the Supreme Court’s order restraining ruling parties from publishing photographs of their political leaders in State-funded advertisements.

Culture Minister K.C. Joseph said the Cabinet would decide on the matter on Wednesday. He said the government disagreed with the apex court’s decision. But it would implement it in letter and spirit. He said the Chief Minister was a constitutional authority like the Prime Minister of India.

In the federal set up, the Chief Minister was head of State, leader of the House and the face of the government.

Even in legal documents, the government is known in the name of the Chief Minister.

Mr. Joseph said he did not see any logical reason in not allowing the publication of the Chief Minister’s photo in State advertisements.
