November 19, 2014 12:22 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:34 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Governor, E. S. L. Narasimhan has called for a meeting of the Education Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Wednesday to resolve differences over conduct of common examination for Intermediate and EAMCET.

He gave this assurance to Andhra Pradesh delegation led by HRD Minster, Ganta Srinivas Rao who complained to him that the Telangana government’s decision to hold these crucial examinations separately was in violation of the provisions of the AP State Reorganisation Act. Mr. Rao was accompanied by Health Minister, Kamineni Srinivas Rao and Labour Minister K. Atchan Naidu and a memorandum was handed over to the Governor.

Mr. Rao told the media later that the career of 20 lakh students in the two states was at stake as they might have to forego the weightage of Intermediate marks for admission to prestigious institutions if Telangana went ahead with its decision. He said the AP government was prepared to participate in the talks to resolve the issue as it concerned lakhs of students. The three Ministers expressed surprise at Telangana government’s decision to go it alone in the middle of the academic year leaving no time for students to prepare for the proposed changes they plan to bring in the system.
