The State government on Thursday accorded administrative approval for a Rs.1300-crore project to divert 80 tmcft of water from river Godavari to river Krishna through Polavaram Project Right Main Canal for domestic and industrial use as a part of water grid.
According to a government order, the proposal for pumping water at Pattiseema into Indira Sagar Right Main Canal (ISRMC) has been agreed upon. As the completion of head works of Indira Sagar Polavaram Project would take four years, it has been proposed to divert Godavari waters to Krishna by lift by providing 30 vertical turbine pumps, each of eight cumecs (280 cusecs) discharging capacity.
Mentioning that the proposal is well within the framework of Krishna and Godavari Tribunal Awards, it said the Engineer-in-Chief shall accord technical sanction after obtaining permission from the government duly submitting the Detailed Project Report (DPR) including completion period.
TendersTenders have to be invited to take up the works under EPC mode of procurement as given in the PWD Code. Main canal works will also be taken up for completion in the same time as fixed for this work.
Special conditions of contract can be incorporated which may include land acquisition, stage-wise completion where the main objective of transfer of water to Krishna river is realised by synchronised completion of the lift, including pressure main and completion of work in right main canal of Polavaram project and ensuring re-use of pumping electro-mechanical systems and any other re-usable items once the water is available through gravity.
It said land acquisition for the purpose also can be suitably done by involving lease agreements or transfer of rights for a limited period on mutual consent basis. A high-power committee headed by the Chief Secretary shall be competent to take all steps and decisions for timely completion of work.
