Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy is in for some trouble as the Central Bureau of Investigation has named her an accused in one of the two charge-sheets it filed in the quid pro quo investments cases against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in a special court here on Tuesday. Two more former Ministers -- P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and Dharmana Prasada Rao, IAS officers K. Ratna Prabha, B. Sam Bob, M. Samuel and B.P. Acharya and industrialist I. Syam Prasad Reddy, chairman of Indu Group of companies, were among the accused named in the two charge-sheets apart from Jagan and V. Vijay Sai Reddy.
Dr. Geetha Reddy’s role in her decisions as a Minister in the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government, particularly in allotment of lands to Lepakshi Knowledge Hub (LKH) and Indu Tech Zone Private Ltd, both belonging to the Indu Group, during 2004-09 would now come under legal scrutiny with her inclusion as the ninth accused in the charge-sheet filed against LKH.
Interestingly, the CBI’s back-to-back action of filing charge-sheets within a span of one week – three on September 10 and two on September 17 – comes on the day when a delegation of Telugu Desam leaders called on the officials of the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Vigilance Commission in New Delhi.In the charge-sheet on the LKH aspect of the quid pro quo case, the CBI has stated that LKH was allotted 8,848 acres in Anantapur district and Indu Tech Zone was allotted 250 acres at Mamidipalli near Shamshabad in Ranga Reddy district in 2006 at prices much lower than the then prevailing market price. The promoters of the two firms were benefited by hundreds of crores.In turn, the CBI alleged, the Indu Group had invested about Rs. 65 crore in Jagan group companies. It alleged that the companies were allotted land flouting norms only to get investments in the Jagan group companies by influencing the State government led by YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
