The Andhra Pradesh Government has set its eyes on ensuring gas connection to all households in the State in the next one year.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the Government has succeeded in providing electricity to all the habitations, including those in the Agency areas, and it was now targeting distribution of gas cylinders to each household. The Government was committed to providing power, water, gas and cable connections to all and efforts were under way to achieve this.

The Chief Minister conducted a teleconference with elected representatives and officials of different departments from his camp office on Wednesday. The Government was sparing no effort to provide energy, water, and food to people and fodder for cattle as this would go a long way in improving the living standards of the people.

Efforts were also under way to put in place social and basic infrastructure in all the villages and the Government had taken up laying of cement roads in all villages. Over 5,000 km of cement roads were laid last year and a similar target was set for the current financial year too.

Surplus power

The Chief Minister recalled how the new State commenced its journey with finances in the doldrums and the institutions were not functioning. The Government could achieve double-digit growth in less than two years after initiating several reforms and planned development covering all parts of the State. From a deficit power of 22 million units a day, the State could now join the ranks of the power surplus States due to the Government’s efforts.

Mr. Naidu said the Government was focussed on ensuring water to domestic, irrigation and industrial sectors as it could ensure effective functioning of the institutions involved and achieve targeted growth. Steps would be taken to see that there was significant growth in the income level of individuals as this was the only way to eradicate poverty.

He wanted the officials concerned to prepare constituency-wise developmental plans so that annual targets could be fixed for achieving accelerated growth at the grassroots level.

The officials should ensure that data pertaining to agriculture, irrigation, health, education and other key sectors was hosted online so that it could be accessed by the stakeholders at any point of time.
