A case under the Nirbhaya Act, the first in East Godavari district, was booked by the Rampachodavaram police on Friday against the three persons who allegedly confined and gang-raped a tribal girl for three days.

The shocking incident came to light on Thursday night after the 15-year-old and her brother lodged a complaint with Rampachodavaram DSP S. Chaitanya Kumar.

The girl was first sent for medical examination to the Area Hospital at Rampachodavaram but as there was no woman medical officer there, she was brought to the Government General Hospital here on Friday.

Mr. Chaitanya Kumar said Nani, Kiran and Swami were booked under Sections 376 (D), 506 and Section 3 Clause 1 of XI, XII and Clause 2 of the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

Visakhapatnam staff reporter adds: A man has been arrested under the Nirbhaya Act for the first time in the city for allegedly sending obscene messages to his live-in partner, Madhuri, and her two daughters.

On a complaint lodged by Madhuri, Gajuwaka Inspector T.M.S. Prakash registered a case under the Nirbhaya Act.
