A court has observed on Wednesday that the associates of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy had kept in reserve Rs.5 crore to “manage” his bail in the High Court after securing it in the lower court.

Grave offences

The observation was made in a common order by the principal court for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases while rejecting bail for suspended judge T. Pattabhirama Rao, his son Ravichandra and retired judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao on the ground that a prima facie case was made out against them and the offences were grave in nature.

Apart from Rs.5 crore kept in reserve to meet needs in the High Court, investigation by ACB revealed Reddy’s relatives struck a deal to distribute a similar sum each to Pattabhi, Chalapathi and mediator Yadagiri.

However, Reddy’s three-member team in the matter insisted that they would release the amount only after securing the bail order from Pattabhi in the CBI court and subsequently the High Court.
