Gadkari for timely completion of Polavaram

Minister visits project site; expresses satisfaction over pace of works

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of the Polavaram irrigation project work, Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday highlighted the need for finding out ways to ensure timely completion of the project by minimising delays.

Along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and a battery of Ministers and elected representatives, he made a whirlwind tour to the Polavaram and Pattiseema lift irrigation projects. Observing that he was keen on completing the pending projects in the departments he was responsible for, Mr. Gadkari said it was time for completing the Polavaram project. “It should have been taken up by the government long back. At last, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has understood the importance of this project and sanctioned funds by according top priority to its completion,” he said during his brief interaction with the media. After going through the site map and eliciting information from Mr. Naidu on the commencement and progress of the work, Mr. Gadkari visited the project site. “I have inspected the manufacturing of gates and the progress is satisfactory. Our aim is to complete the project in time and fulfil the long pending dreams of the farmers from this region,” he said. Mr. Naidu said the State government accorded top priority to the project and Polavaram was very close to his heart.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Gadkari, along with Mr. Naidu and the Governor, visited the Pattiseema lift irrigation project and offered floral tributes to the Godavari.
