Gaddar seeks CBI probe into attack on him

April 02, 2014 01:02 am | Updated May 21, 2016 07:42 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Seventeen years after unidentified gunmen shot and injured him grievously, balladeer Gaddar on Tuesday urged Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to see that a thorough investigation was taken up by the CBI and justice was done to him.

In a memorandum dated April 1, Mr. Gaddar recalled the attack on him that took place on April 6, 1997 in his residence at Alwal, by people who claimed themselves to be Green Tigers, which he believes were sponsored by the then ruling Telugu Desam government. With a bullet still embedded in his spinal chord, the balladeer said no proper investigation was conducted. He said that finally, on July 30, 2001, it was ‘buried’ with a final report submitted by the CID officer concerned saying there was scant hope that the case would be detected in the near future and hence it was being treated as ‘undetected’ with a request for proceedings to be issued accordingly. He said that opposing this, his wife Vimala had filed a ‘protect petition’. As the case was transferred to the CID, Ranga Reddy district, the Court directed the CID Inspector of the district to file report, that was yet to be done thus far.
