Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLA) secretary Chandrasekhar on Saturday demanded immediate cessation of ‘Operation Green Hunt’ and ‘Operation Samadhan’, ‘which were hampering the peaceful living of tribal communities’.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said a 44-member fact-finding committee comprising delegates from various people’s organisations visited Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra and came to an understanding the incident that occurred on April 22 was a fake encounter.

He said the ‘encounter’ was put into motion in a sudden burst of attack by C-60 commandos using under-barrel grenade launchers thus killing several Maoists. “We demand severe action against policemen involved in the massacre,” he said.

He said policemen showed 15 bodies on April 22 and five on April 23. “On April 24, they exhibited 15 more bodies which clearly indicated atrocities by the police force,” he alleged.

Mr. Chandrasekhar demanded removal of the para-military police camp from Gadchiroli and vacating of stay order by the Supreme Court on the verdict given by the full-bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court making it mandatory the registration of First Information Report against police officers for death of a person caused during the discharge of official duties, including encounters.
