An infant going missing at the Government Maternity Hospital created a furore on Tuesday.
C. Kamala of Renigunta had given birth to a baby a couple of days back and was recovering at the hospital, when the baby was found missing at midnight on Monday. The shocked family members accosted the hospital staff only to be admonished and sent back by them. Kamala’s family members gathered at the spot and staged a dharna in front of the hospital.
With the news spreading through the local media channels, leaders of various political parties converged at the spot to express solidarity with the family. Local legislator (YSR Congress) B. Karunakar Reddy, TDP leader Sapthagiri Prasad and others demanded action against the ‘negligent’ staff on duty.
CPI’s city secretary Chinnam Penchalaiah saw a larger gameplan by the staff to make money, in collusion with the corporate hospitals.
