Relatives and friends of slain NRI woman techie and son pay their last respects in Thimarajupalem village, near Parchur in Prakasam district on Sunday.

The funeral of the 38-year-old woman hailing from Andhra Pradesh and her six-year-old son, who were found murdered in New Jersey on March 24, was performed amid poignant scenes at the remote Thimarajupalem village, near Parchur in Prakasam district on Sunday.

The last rites were performed by N.Subba Rao, father-in-law of the woman N. Sasikala, in the absence of her husband N.Hanumantha Rao, who was expected to perform them but did not turn up in the last moment. According to an agency report from New York, the US authorities had not imposed any restrictions on his movement after the bodies were autopsied and released to a funeral home there for last rites.

The bodies of the woman and her son Anish Sai were earlier taken to Vijayawada for Sasikala’s parents and their relatives to pay their last respects.

Sasikala’s father S. Venkateswara Rao and mother S. Krishna Kumari had said their son-in-law, who allegedly had an affair with a woman colleague there, was allegedly behind the crime.
