Four workers die in chemical factory explosion

Four workers of Durga Intermediate Chemicals got charred to death after a reactor, near which they were working, exploded on Sunday morning at Jeedimetla Industrial Area here.

Four more sustained burns and were admitted to a private hospital. Condition of three of them was critical as percentage of the burns they suffered was more than 50 per cent, the police said.

The victims were identified as Narsimha Swamy, Raju, Ramana and Srinivas. Death was instant for them. Over 50 firemen struggled for over two hours using eight fire tenders to put out the flames that erupted following the reactor’s explosion, Jeedimetla Police Inspector, A. Gangaram, said.

A case of rash and negligent act resulting in death was registered against the factory management.
