Four women labourers were killed and three others injured when the tractor-trolley they were travelling in turned turtle in Anantapur district on Saturday, police said.

The tractor-trolley was loaded with black stones from a quarry unit in Ankareddypalli village in Tadipatri mandal of Anantapur and some women labourers were sitting atop them, they said.

When the vehicle was crossing Venkatreddypalli village on Saturday morning, a speeding lorry hit it from rear as a result of which it turned turtle, a police officer told PTI .

“After the trolley turned turtle, the stones fell on the labourers killing two of them on the spot while two others died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The condition of three others is serious,” he said.

According to the police, the lorry was being driven at breakneck speed and the driver was still at large.
