Four red sanders smugglers held

The district police arrested four members of the red sanders smuggling gang and seized Rs. 44.50 lakh in cash, 23 logs, and a van at Nellorepalem cross roads point near Atmakur here on Tuesday. morning. Kadapa-based Guddeti Ramanadha Reddy is said to be the kingpin of the gang. It was a major haul in the Nellore district after the State police launched vigorous drive to prevent the smuggling activities in the southern districts of Nellore, Chittoor, and Kadapa. Once an active transit point, Nellore, in recent past, witnessed some lull in the smuggling activity. However, Tuesday’s arrests brought to the surface the renewed activities of the smuggling gangs.

While Ramanadha Reddy is absconding, the other members of the gang were taken into custody. The arrested were Peram Praveen, Podili Nagaraju and Bhuduru Lokesh of Nellore city and Eggoni Venkata Krishna Reddy of Erraballipalem in Vinjamur area. Nellore SP Vishal Gunni said that on special intelligence inputs, the police acted immediately and caught the gang members. The police said that orders were issued for the arrest of Ramanadha Reddy and his gang under the Preventive Detention Act in the past.
