Four people died in a freak accident when a truck ran over them killing all of them on the spot in the Parlachedu village of the Settur mandal of the Anantapur district.

According to the Settur police, Kori Gururaj, a farmer from Parlachedu village had hired a borewell rig truck to his fields on Friday evening to drill a bore.

Since it did not yield water, the farmer abandoned the exercise and settled the payments to the borewell firm.

During night few villagers reportedly slept on the tomato fields near the borewell site. In the meantime, the driver of the borewell rig truck chose to leave the village and took the vehicle in reverse and ran over the four farmers.

All four farmers, identified as Sanjeev (33), Mantesh (27), Thimmappa (33) and Narasimha Murthy (30), were killed on the spot.

The Settur police have since received a complaint and are in the process of registering a case.
