A doctor was murdered allegedly by four of his friends at Nandyal town of the Kurnool district on Monday.

According to the Nandyal police, the police found a person lying on the road side, unconscious and bleeding, near the Srinivas centre area of Nandyal town, past midnight, in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The person was shifted to the government general hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

The police told The Hindu that the person was later identified as Sailendra Reddy (33), a doctor working at the government hospital in Gajulapalli village of the Mahanandi mandal of Kurnool district.

A case has been booked. Meanwhile, the police picked up four persons, all friends of the deceased, under the suspicion that they might have bludgeoned him under the influence of alcohol over some differences, after they met the deceased on Monday night and bought liquor at a shop near the Nandyal bus station, where the CCTV cameras had captured them.
