Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said foundation for constructing an AIIMS-like institute at Mangalagiri would be laid by the end of January. The project will be completed in three years.

The four-member committee that inspected the site near the APSP Sixth Battalion at Mangalagiri expressed satisfaction and said the topography was ideal for establishing the institute. The committee comprising Raipur AIIMS Superintendent Ajay Dany, its Superintendent Engineer M.Rastogi, senior architect Rajiv Kanna Vijaya and Union Ministry of Health Under-Secretary B.L.Meena will be submitting its report to the government very shortly, he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

The committee members wanted the high-tension wires passing across the site to be removed and enquired about the land title. The Minister informed that it was a clear title devoid of any litigation and the district authorities had thoroughly checked those aspects. The site is well-connected through rail, road and air routes. The government has already allotted 193 acres for establishing the hospital, and if need be, 12.5 acres of additional land will also be allotted for the project. The government, on its part, had already sanctioned Rs. 500 crore in the present budget for taking up the project.

Staff Reporter from Guntur adds:

Collector Kantilal Dande, who received the members of the team on the premises of T.B Sanatorium where the Government General Hospital, Mangalagiri, is now located, said 190 acres has been identified for setting up of AIIMS. The 190 acres of land included 50 acres allotted to National Disaster Relief Force.
