Former MP seeks White Paper on spending of SC/ST Sub-Plan funds

April 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KAKINADA:

Questioning the State government’s sincerity towards the welfare of the scheduled castes, former Amalapuram MP G.V. Harsha Kumar on Saturday demanded that the government publish a White Paper on the spending of SC/ST Sub-Plan funds and provide reservations to the SCs in the market committee chairman posts, contracts and wine shops.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Harsha Kumar accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying to mislead the SCs by way of announcing the installation of tallest statue of B.R. Ambedkar.

“If the Chief Minister is really sincere towards the statue, let him allocate general funds for the project but not to divert the funds from the sub-plan,” he said, adding that injustice was meted out to the officers who belonged to the scheduled castes in promotions and the Chief Minister was expecting loyalty from the elected representatives belonged to the SC.

“Right from DGP, every key post in the government has been given to the officers belonged to the caste of the Chief Minister and it is at the cost of the careers of SC officers, who are enjoying seniority,” he said.

Reservation sought

Referring to the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of B.R. Ambedkar, the former MP said that Telangana government announced reservation for SCs in the market committee chairman posts, while Karnataka announced reservations in allocation of contracts. “But, in Andhra Pradesh no major announcement was done by the government in favour of the SCs. Let the government announce reservations at least in the allocation of wine shops,” he said.

Mr. Harsha Kumar said that he was continuing his fight against the oil companies that failed to fulfil their corporate social responsibility, but making tall claims on that front. Former Kakinada Mayor P. Saroja and others were present.
