Former Maoist Konapuri Ramulu, the brother of slain CPI (M) Maoist general secretary K. Sambasivudu, was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants at M.A. Baig Function Hall at Ram Nagar Colony around 11.30 am in Nalgonda on Sunday.

Mr. Ramulu, along with his two gunmen, got down from his car near the function hall to attend the marriage function of New Democracy leader Parvathalu’ s daughter when they were ambushed. Seven unidentified persons intercepted them and spilled chilly powder in the eyes of gunmen and shot Ramulu in close range before fleeing in a vehicle. He died on the spot.

The visibly shocked gunmen said they had no time to counter them as the miscreants executed their plan within two minutes. The body was shifted to Nalgonda Government Hospital.

Mr. Ramulu, an underground Naxalite for many years, had surrendered before DIG, Hyderabad range on June 13, 2007 in Hyderabad . He had later joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and had been working as district vice-president . On several occasions, he said he feared threat to his life from Nayeemuddin Gang. An attempt on his life was also made on June 9, 2013 at Anthammagudem village of Boodhan Pochampally maandal in Nalgonda district while he was proceeding to attend a TRS public meeting. But he escaped unhurt. The Choutuppal Police had arrested eight of the nine suspected hired killers identified so far in this case.

His brother Samabsivudu, known as Konapuri Illaiah, who surrendered on February 15, 2009, was also killed on March 27, 2011, near Gokaram village of Valigonda mandal in Nalgonda district. Sambasivudu also had joined with TRS and rose in ranks within two years of his political career.
