Fool-proof security arrangements were made for smooth conduct of elections to municipalities in Kurnool district on Sunday.

SP B. Raghurami Reddy said the police would not hesitate to initiate tough action against the anti-social elements who try to disrupt the poll process.

He said security for the ballot units, polling staff and protection to common voters are priority jobs for the police. He said all the sensitive, hyper-sensitive and problematic booths were notified and extra troops and armed personnel were being deployed.

In all, 11,639 people were bound over in 1,340 cases and the weapons were deposited with the police. Rowdy-sheets were opened against persons with criminal history.

He said prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Cr PC and Section 30 of the Police Act were promulgated to ban rallies and meetings commemorating the victory of candidates.

He called upon political parties, voters and contestants for peaceful conduct of the elections.
