Department of Science and Technology Director S. Sudarsana Rao expressed serious concern over the lack of enthusiasm among the youngsters to take up research which would lay a strong foundation for the development of the country. He said that there were ample opportunities for research in various fields such as engineering, physics, chemistry, geo-physics, mathematics s and other fields.

A seminar on importance of research and development was held on Sunday in Aditya Institute of Technology and Management-Tekkali of Srikakulam district. Speaking as a chief guest, he said that developed countries such as US and UK were giving utmost importance to research and encourage students to come out with innovative thoughts. “India needs dynamic and young scientists to meet the global standards in science and technology. The students should opt for research instead of taking up jobs after completion of their courses,” Mr.Sudarsana Rao added.

He said that the Union government was offering up to Rs.70,000 per person for taking up research activity under Swarna Jayanti programme. “Separate scholarships are being offered for tentative courses also. The students should use the opportunity and involve in advanced studies which would make India as a strong country in the world,” DST director said.

AITAM Director VV Nageswara Rao said that the college was encouraging budding engineers to come out with new ideas and submit research papers apart from concentrating on regular studies. AITAM College principal Madhu Sahu, Management studies wing principal D.Vishnumurthy and others participated in the seminar.
