Over 100 MLAs of the Telugu Desam party taking a holiday to attend weddings came under flak on Friday.
PCC president and former Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said that the Legislative Assembly was being run like a ‘private’ company by the Telugu Desam party.
According a decision by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) at its meeting on November 10 the Assembly would be in session till November 25, even though it was Saturday, a government holiday.
The BAC took a decision to extend the session by another three days November 27 to 29 and the sitting on November 25, the government holiday, was cancelled.
The subject of holiday came up for discussion in the Assembly on November 22 by Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad. The Deputy Leader and Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishna announced that members were requesting holidays on November 24 and 25( Thursday and Friday).
Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, who presided over the House after a break, announced that there would be no sitting on Thursday and Friday and would meet again on November 27. He said that the tenth session which was to end on November 25 was being extended till November 1.
The PCC president in a press conference on Friday said that the dates of the Legislative Assembly were being changed at the whim and fancy of the members. “Attending marriages seems to be more important to the MLAs than the problems of people,” he said. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said the MLAs should apply leave not to attend marriages but to give support to the people of the State who were suffering.
