A New Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight (No.SG 226) from Visakhapatnam was grounded at Hyderabad airport on Thursday after a `bird hit'. The flight has been cancelled on its onward journey to New Delhi. All the passengers are safe.

SpiceJet officials confirmed the `bird hit' and said that inspection of the aircraft was being done at Hyderabad to find out the extent of damage and it could take more than seven hours to put the aircraft back on flight.

The incident happened soon after the flight took off at 8.55 a.m. However, the passengers were informed of the incident minutes before landing at Hyderabad as scheduled at 10.05 a.m.

Reservations by the flight were however cancelled and all passengers accommodated on another aircraft. The flight took off at 12.30 p.m. from Hyderabad for New Delhi, about two hours behind schedule.
